IPE Relay for Life Team

Greetings to the Awesome People of the IPE Department!

This year we thought it would be awesome if we, as a major, got together to join in the fight against cancer. Luckily, there is an event on campus that makes joining this fight easy and this event is Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, raising millions of dollars a year for cancer Research, Patient Services, Education, and Advocacy (for more info keep reading). So if you or someone you know has ever been affected by cancer, or you just agree that it’s a terrible disease, go online to www.relayforlifeofups.com and join the IPE team. If you have any questions please e-mail Jessica Bruce at jbruce@ups.edu or Emily Noel at enoel@ups.edu. Join us Today!!

WHAT: Try to imagine a giant moving slumber party with hundreds of guests. Teams of 10-15 walkers from businesses, churches, schools, organizations, families and neighborhoods join cancer survivors (the honored guests) and their families for what we know as Relay For Life.

We honor survivors as they walk the first lap and caregivers are honored in the second lap. From that point on, team participants start walking with each team having representation on the track for 24 hours. After dark, luminaria bags are lit in honor of those surviving and battling cancer and in memory of those who have lost their lives to the disease. Entertainment, colorfully decorated tents, prizes, games and fun for all ages round out the Relay For Life experience. There is information about the American Cancer Society’s educational programs, research, patient services and advocacy efforts.

WHEN: April 11st-12nd, 2008

WHERE: Baker Field, UPS Campus

WHY: American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a celebration of life. Thanks to rapidly advancing technology, early detection and education about prevention more people survive today than ever before. Relay for Life is a lot more than just another fundraiser. It is about being a community that takes up the fight against cancer, coming together for a common cause. It services to remind us that, although progress continues to be made in the crusade against cancer, so much more needs to be done.

In addition to raising critical monies, Relay for Life provides a platform for raising cancer awareness and connecting communities to all of the American Cancer Society’s programs and services. Through cancer research, community education, patient services and advocacy, the American Cancer Society works through Relay For Life to save lives.
