Summer Research Fellowships Awarded

Leigh Barrick and Daniel Adler have been awarded Summer Research Fellowships by the IPE Program Faculty.

Leigh's project is titled "Analysis of the Failures of Fair Trade and Emigration in Chiapas" and builds upon her fieldwork in Oaxaca during her foreign study semester there in Fall 2007. Leigh will combine traditional research with fieldwork in Mexico this summer.

Dan's project is titled "Under the Radar: Sister Cities' Overlooked Role in Defining and Advancing Globalization." He will travel to such exotic places as Kansas City (for the Sister Cities International Annual Conference) and Kitakyushu, Japan; Taichung, Taiwan; Davao, Philippines and Fuzhou, China (all of which are Sister Cities with Tacoma, Washington).

Congratulations to Leigh and Dan. They will each receive $4000 to help finance their research. Funds for Leigh's award come from royalties from the IPE textbook project. Funds for Dan's award come from a Friend of IPE who has made a generous donation to the IPE Program to support student program.
