When: Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Where: WSC 101
Speaker: Anders Conway IPE ‘06
Event: IPE Brown Bag Seminar Series

Anders Conway is a 2006 graduate from the University of Puget Sound. He will be presenting his research about the bazaar society and his travels through Central Asia. He has lived in Kyrgyzstan twice for a total of 15 months. He did the fieldwork for his research on his second visit.

His presentation will include an overview of the bazaar society, which is an embodiment of the economic requirements of the society it serves and an expression of the political will of society when its needs are unmet.

Conway will describe how he believes the rise of the bazaar represents a significant shift in the political economy and the reassertion of traditional modes of imbuing meaning.
