On
February 19th we toured the distribution center, where Savers/Value
Village processes unsold items from West Coast stores for sale by the
pound to foreign buyers. Every day they
receive 6 truck trailer loads of clothes, toys, shoes, kitchenware,
books, backpacks, and other items that are sorted, bundled, and shipped
to the port. They also recycle wire, metals, and plastic. It's a major
operation: their output in 2013 was 80 million pounds!
