This year marks the first offering of a quarter-credit activity course
called "Garden Practices" (ENVR 356). Led by seniors Rose Hanrahan and
Mally Wyld with the help of IPE professor Emelie Peine, Garden Practices
introduces students to the basic principles of organic vegetable and
fruit cultivation in the Pacific Northwest. Students are learning how to
build hoop houses for year-round gardening, how to identify and manage
common pests, and how to rotate crops for soil nutrient management. They
are even growing kale that will soon be showing up in salads, pasta,
and other fare at the SUB, so stay tuned!
