Guest speaker Aseel Al-Awadhi discusses democracy in the Middle East

Aseel Al-Awadhi, assistant professor of philosophy at Kuwait University, will be on campus Monday, March 24, to give a presentation on "The Stumbling Democracy in the Middle East: Challenges and Prospects," exploring what she believes to be the crucial factors that hinder democratization in the Middle East, and shedding light on the problematic assumptions that arguments for “Islamic Liberalism” or “nonsecular democracy” rest upon. Co-sponsored by the Departments of Philosophy, Politics and Government, and Religion, and by the Gender Studies and International Political Economy programs, the lecture will begin at 6 p.m., in the Tahoma Room, Commencement Hall.
