Pierre Ly, Associate
Professor in the International Political
Economy (IPE) program,
has been selected to be the first exchange scholar for the Puget Sound –
Fujian Normal University Faculty Exchange Program, generously supported by the
Charles Garnet Trimble Foundation. Pierre's research, co-authored with his
wife, Professor Cynthia Howson from the University of Washington Tacoma,
explores the development of the Chinese wine industry. The story of
Chinese wine is about politics, globalization, economic growth, environmental
challenges, land rights, and governance. In short, IPE! In summer 2013 and 2014,
Pierre and Cynthia traveled to major Chinese wine regions to interview winery
owners, winemakers, grape growers, journalists, retailers, consultants and
experts. They look forward to exchanging ideas with colleagues and students at
Fujian Normal University in September 2015, and to discovering the beautiful
city of Fuzhou.
